Department overview

The Interior Cockpit team are responsible for the design & development of all interior door, cockpit and instrument panel systems across all models.

 

Job purpose

The CAD Design Engineer will lead the creation of CAD models of components, systems, master sections to support the development of the interior instrument panel system.

 

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Lead creation of 3D CAD models in co-operation with / under the direction of the Design Project Engineer.
  • Preparation of Part Manufacturing Information, either model based or 2D drawings.
  • Management of data within PLM system.
  • Assistance in preparation of Engineering Release packs.
  • Review and present design concepts and solutions at a range of levels within the organisation.
  • Investigate and support issue resolution during prototype, pre-production and production phases of the vehicle life-cycle.

 

Experience and qualifications 

Essential experience 

  • Extensive experience in the creation of 3D models using Siemens NX software.
  • Understanding of AML drafting standards
  • Experience of interior cockpit design of components and systems, in particular one or more of the following: metal castings, extrusions, injection mouldings, RIM moulding and vac forming.

Preferred experience

  • Experience in the use of TeamCenter PLM system.
  • A working knowledge of interior trim component manufacturing, tooling requirements & lead times. 
  • A working knowledge of trim development and its application to instrument panel systems
  • Experience in the automotive industry with a broad knowledge of engineering design and manufacturing, particularly relating to Body interiors.
  • Experience of using the Microsoft Office suite of tools.

Essential education/ qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience of NX
