Job Description

JOB TITLE: UX/UI Designer (12-Month FTC)

LOCATION: Manchester
SALARY: £59,850 - £66,500
HOURS: Full Time
DURATION: 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time in the Manchester office.

Occasional travel to other group locations (e.g. Leeds, London, and Edinburgh), may be required.

About this opportunity
The UX/UI Designer creates intuitive, accessible digital experiences within a start-up style innovation team. Working from concept through MVP and scaling, they design interaction patterns, prototype solutions, and shape product experiences across multiple modalities — not just screens.

What You’ll Do

  • Work in a technically focused environment, balancing complex outcomes with consumer needs.

  • Craft the end-to-end user experience, bringing together a cohesive journey step by step.

  • Bring designs to life through Figma and feel confident in running user testing sessions.

  • Balance business requirements with user needs, gathering user research and rationale to align stakeholders on individual user needs. You’ll know when to diplomatically push back, if necessary, to act on what’s right for the customer.

  • Be adaptable to the technical constraints of different platforms yet still be able to give guidance on creating the best possible end-user experience.

  • Advocate customer inclusion, ensuring designs are inclusive and accessible to customers of all ages, backgrounds, and technical abilities.

  • Collaborate closely with other designers, product owners, and engineers

What you'll need
Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Interaction Design & Design Systems - Builds scalable interfaces using design systems and designs across multiple modalities and interaction contexts.

  • Prototyping & Interaction Experimentation - Creates rapid prototypes and runs lightweight experiments to validate ideas and inform product direction.

  • Information Architecture & Experience Mapping - Structures user flows and journeys, synthesising insights — even in ambiguous or low-information environments.

  • Accessible & Inclusive Design - Applies accessibility standards from the outset and champions inclusive design practices.

  • Product Thinking & Outcome Focus - Balances user needs with product growth, value proposition thinking, and measurable experience outcomes.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Behavioural psychology and persuasive design

  • Visual and content design collaboration

  • Multi-disciplinary facilitation and critique leadership

  • User experience measurement frameworks (e.g., EBVI)

  • Mentoring and craft development
