A little more about your role…  

 

We are seeking suitably qualified Technical Director Landscape Architect with a diverse track record to join our Edinburgh or Glasgow Landscape & Urban Design team. We are a passionate and motivated team with offices in all regions of the UK and Ireland. We value integrity and professionalism aligned with creativity and vision and as part of the UK and Ireland Environment business, the successful candidate will join a diverse, collaborative team and work alongside colleagues across the UK and Ireland. 

 

Strategic leadership  

  • Promote, deliver and grow landscape planning and assessment for national and international clients, aligned to the LUD Business Plan, the WSP Strategic Action Plan and supporting the successful financial performance of the team.  
  • Shape & develop a strategy for “what excellent looks like” for landscape planning outputs (standards, templates, proportionality and consistency) and people, embedding continuous improvement and lessons learned.  
  • Act as key contact and senior advisor within Environmental Services on policy, technical advice and guidance and primary interface to the EMA (EIA coordination) team for landscape planning matters.  
  • Collaborate to build internal and external profile for landscape planning through thought leadership, client engagement and industry representation.  
  • Support growth and retention of talent through mentoring, coaching and a clear development pathway.  
  • Proactively support consistency in development and wellbeing at a national level by strengthening authorship and reviewer capability to help manage LVIA workload pressures.  
  • Identify, support and develop opportunities for technical improvement, including the opportunities represented by new technologies.  
  • Shape and pursue opportunities for market growth, supported by business development and client activities, sector and client plans. 
  • Provide senior leadership on projects including DCOs, ensuring integration with EIA teams and other disciplines through consent, design evolution and mitigation.  
  • Champion rigorous QA, peer review and sign-off for submissions to protect quality, programme and commercial outcomes.  
  • Provide expert witness services and develop an inquiry-ready bench through coaching.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…  

 

  • Degree level qualification in Landscape Architecture or recognised equivalent. 
  • Postgraduate Diploma / Masters qualification in Landscape Architecture or recognised equivalent. 
  • Established track record authoring Landscape and Visual Impact Appraisals and Assessments. 
  • Established track record successfully delivering landscape and urban design projects, from initial site analysis and concept design through to detailed design including the production of information for planning and construction. 
  • Excellent technical skills and proficiency in Autodesk or Bentley and Adobe Creative Suite. 
  • Fluent spoken English with excellent verbal, written and graphic communication skills.
